The NRA’s Call to War
No. I don’t want you to watch this video. I mean that. It is everything wrong with our media machine today. Divisive, specious, filled with lazy rhetoric designed to stoke fears and dampen reason.
But if you aren’t already aware of what this video says and perhaps you are, you need to understand what is driving the fear, the madness, the xenophobia of the American populace.
What makes it more insidious, is I have no idea how to stop it. Reason is helpless against it. Rational thinking is in short supply and the ubiquity of disinformation makes it seem almost normal by comparison. The person it is designed to affect won’t even realize what’s happening to them.
But it is still wrong. No matter how it tries to rationalize its perspective, no matter how it tries to make it seem the only answer is to arm every citizen, give greater powers to the police and crush any opposition before it can rise up, it is wrong to use fear like this.
Don’t take my word for it. Watch it yourself and draw your own conclusions.
If for some reason you can’t watch it or won’t I have a transcript for you to read instead:
They use their media to assassinate real news. They use their schools to teach children that their president is another Hitler. They use their movie stars and singers and comedy shows and award shows to repeat their narrative over and over again. And then they use their ex-president to endorse “the resistance.”
ALL TO MAKE THEM MARCH. Make them protest. Make them scream racism and sexism and xenophobia and homophobia. To smash windows, burn cars, shut down interstates and airports, bully and terrorize the law abiding. Until the only option left is for the police to do their jobs and STOP THE MADNESS. And when that happens, they’ll use it as an excuse for their outrage. The only way we stop this, the only way we save our country and our freedom, is to fight this violence of lies with the clenched fist of truth. I’m the National Rifle Association of America, and I’m freedom’s safest place.”
A Word of Warning: If you agree with this video, if you believe it is a good and just thing, if you believe the best thing we can do is to promote and foment fear in America, keep it to yourself because the only result you will get if you decide to comment and say something out of line, is blocked.
I might consider a brief comment that is well-reasoned, intelligently-considered, and thoughtful in its analysis of the video. If all you have to add to the conversation is: “it’s about time” it’s best if you keep that to yourself. Please. I am salty behind this and am not trying to hear anyone try to rationalize this clear attempt at fear-mongering. Don’t do it.
What in the flaming hell…
I have nothing but contempt for the victim-blaming of the Conservative GOP and their lapdog, the NRA who want to tell you how oppressed Trump is, who want to tell you how violent protests have been since he’s been in office. There have been protests against the Great Orange Corrupter-in-Chief but none of them have been violent. If anything, it has been his rhetoric which has managed to incite violence and take no responsibility for doing so. Just like you’re doing with this video.
Is this the same Trump who decided to wage war on Muslims directly with his ban on Muslim countries? Who passed an unconstitutional executive order to ban Muslims from countries claiming religious zealotry is their primary export? A zealotry which has a sound similar to this very recording preaching fear, jingoistic rantings and lazy rhetoric designed to bypass any reasoning centers and go straight for the fear centers of the brain.
Is this the same Trump who wants to build walls to keep Mexicans out of the country? Is this the same Trump who wants to speak on American exceptionalism except he cannot complete a sentence without sounding as if he were already in the throes of dementia, rambling about how great HE is with every breath?
Is this the same Trump with over 3000 lawsuits against him, a current investigation into allegations of election tampering, a known history of sexual assault, and clear conflicts of economic interest he is simply not supposed to be involved in as the President of the United States?
The same Trump who has stocked his presidency with Wall Street fat-cats, incompetent imbeciles in every office and has engaged in cronyism and nepotism all in the same breath, hiring his family members into positions of power in the office of the President and giving them access to resources they shouldn’t be allowed to partake of including top-level security briefings?
Do I need to even mention the White supremacist in the White House acting as one of his chief advisors? And the media sources he has endorsed as his voice in the media? Most minorities like to pretend the White House is an impartial arbiter of laws and rules which will affect their lives. We know it isn’t true, given the history of the United States, but we pretend so we can get through the day. With Bannon in the House, behind every decision, no one can even pretend they are going to be treated fairly.
While we are on the subject of being treated fairly, Jeff Sessions is literally the last person anyone who is a minority should want as the Attorney General. A candidate with less moral qualifications could not have been found unless it was the Grand Wizard of the Klu Klux Klan. Sessions was unqualified thirty years ago when Coretta Scott King read him the riot act and he is even less qualified today. His ideas of justice and jurisprudence are tainted by his racism and xenophobia which has not mellowed with age.
Is this the same Trump who has lied over 200 times and has lied so much the New York Times has had to document them just so we know someone is aware even if we can’t actually stop him from doing it?
President Trump's Lies, the Definitive List
Jan. 21 "I wasn't a fan of Iraq. I didn't want to go into Iraq." (He was for an invasion before he was against it.) Jan…
Is this the same Trump who has made it impossible for news agencies to report on him and his Congressional attack dogs, the GOP by removing the ability to record them saying crazy things on their way to disenfranchise another group of minorities before their next six week recess?
They want to tell you that President Obama has been leading the Resistance against Trump’s being in office. Is this the same Obama that went on vacation and said absolutely nothing for the first 60 days of Trump’s maligned presidency? The same Obama who has been positively circumspect in anything he has said about the Trump presidency, which could not have been said of Trump before he took the office.
As to the media, is there a more effective propaganda machine than FOX and friends, a state-focused commentary service which has all but given up writing anything resembling objective news and instead spends the bulk of its time licking yugely from the Great Orange One’s ass?
Is this the same Trump and Friends who plan to repeal every single act of Obama’s presidency, pathologically destroying environmental actions which benefit the entire world, verbally attacking our allies while praising dictators around the world? Who in the hell praises dictators? Why is this even a thing in our leadership?
Does destroying and “repealing” Obamacare, which is a healthcare compromise at best, and replacing it with whatever tax cuts for the rich they are passing for the sole benefit of giving control of Americans health over to whatever predatory insurance agency can capitalize on the vulnerabilities of American citizens the best seem like they have anyone’s best interests at heart?
I mean besides insurance companies, that is. It makes insurance companies happy because people will pay MORE for less and that too seems to be the American way, now more than ever.
Is our current leadership’s idea of freedom to greatly impoverish every citizen of the United States they can affect while they have the majority in office? Does repealing the healthcare of 22 million people an effective way to “make your nation great” again?
If this is the idea of making America great they are talking about then, I would say America is on its way to its greatest state ever:
Returning to being a nation of poverty-stricken, over-worked, underpaid, debt-ridden, angry, armed, intellectually-deficient, scientifically illiterate, and culturally-bereft individuals, little better than slaves, best avoided by everyone who has the option of living anywhere else on the planet.
Trump and his Crony Coalition appear, under the guise of making the nation great again (when was that, by the way?) appear to be facilitating big businesses ultimate goal of creating a nation of Americans who hide in their home, shop from their computers and wait for drones to drop aid packages so they don’t have to go outside and risk getting shot.
Not by gangs, as the NRA might profess, but by an over-zealous, not-accountable, irresponsible member of the biggest gang in the nation, the police of whatever district allows you to walk the street under what would have been called martial law for minorities at any other time in history.
That is when they are not working three part-time jobs to string together a nearly full-time salary, exhausted, driving eighty miles a day, sleeping at the wheel and dying from hypertension without the benefit of a healthcare package they once got from their full-time job before the Great Recession.
NRA you are a disgrace to the nation, fomenting madness in the street, promoting gun violence and creating advertising which primes the pump for illiterate, gun-toting morons to take to the streets to harm anyone who isn’t a White, fearful individual waiting for the day when minorities outnumber Whites and starting the race war you claim the Left is seeking to create.
If anyone in the nation had the capacity to expose you for the frauds you were, they would have done it. It appears no amount of reason can bridge the gap between what Trump is and the former ideals of this nation. Yes, I said ideals. Not that the nation has always lived up to them but they were at least good ideals.
See: Revolutionary War circa 1776. Chattel slavery wasn’t ended for another 90 years or so. So much for all men were created equal…
Alas, NRA, you get to claim you are the hero of this dystopian nightmare because the citizens are too ignorant to recognize your monstrosity for what it is: a direct threat on their lives every time an ignorant person watches this video and draws the conclusions you want them to.
“You are under siege and only we can save you. Listen to us, be radicalized by us and then go out and kill. But not in our name, because that ruins our brand. Kill in service of your beleaguered nation, who needs you to drive back the foreign, Muslim and Mexican invaders taking away peace and prosperity from God-fearing Americans. Amen.”
If this is the best you can do. Stop. Just shut the fuck up. No one needs what you have to say and if they are foolish enough to believe it, God help us all.
NRA Wants You To Shoot Protesters, The Media, People Of Color, And Teachers! God Bless.
