Never let stupidity and racism go unchallenged
“The whole idea of diversity is a bunch of crap and un-American,” Grossman said at a GOP campaign forum held April 21 in Pittsgrove, Salem County.
Without further ado, let it be said:
Fuck this guy.
When I read Seth Grossman’s complaints about diversity, I responded:
“And then there are those of us who claw greatness from the granite of our oppression, right from the beating heart of this evil beast who believes it is his right to oppress us.
We dine on this stolen heart, chewing it with gusto, relishing the opportunity to feast upon their weakness, their inability to recognize the immensity of OUR power.”
If you are going to run for office and you are going to represent the American constituency, then the first thing you have to remember, especially if you plan to be in office in the coming years: America has always been diverse.
It was not celebrated by the people who stole this nation, one bead and one bullet at a time from the Native Americans.
It was not celebrated by the people who enslaved the Africans with cruelty and monstrous treatment for 264 years.
It was not celebrated by the people who took advantage of people seeking opportunity in this nation who were not natives but worked hard to become citizens of this emergent nation, whether it was building railroads or tending children, these immigrants only wanted what Whites kept for themselves, the possibility of freedom.
Diversity was UN-AMERICAN only in the eyes of the bigots who founded this nation.
They spoke of freedom, but only for themselves.
Nevertheless, we found our way using those same words to create a new freedoms, past slavery, past Jim Crow, creating new amendments, demanding new rights, until we have, at least on paper, the freest nation in the world. A freedom as bloody as the nation founded on it.
We are not prepared to give that up, no matter what bigots crying about their loss of opportunity, their loss of manifest destiny, their loss of the ability to abuse, murder, kill and destroy anything which requires they grow up and participate in society as adults.
Like it or not, in thirty years Whites complaining about being replaced, complaining about minorities, Whites crying about Mexicans speaking Spanish in public spaces, White women complaining about Black people minding their own damn business anywhere in the nation, will be a minority in America, just like you are on this planet.
Being a minority won’t hurt you. I know you’re afraid we are going to be as cruel to you as you were to us, but I doubt it.
It might even make you stronger as you realize you are part of something larger than yourselves. That your bigotry makes you small. Weak. Petty. Ineffective. Insignificant.
There is no more emergent quality to the growth and development of this nation than DIVERSITY. When it was good and allowed to exist, for however small a window that was, the potential for greatness was there. A symbol for the rest of the world, a beacon of what our collective future could look like if we stood together and truly embraced THE OTHER.
Anyone who rails against diversity, who says it has no value, has no merit and only Whites can make America great (though it has never been so under any semblance of Whites-only rule) is a damn liar, a damned bigot and should under no circumstances be involved in the future development of a nation in desperate need of innovation, creativity, and adaptability which can only be found under DIVERSITY.
If diversity offends you, leave. This is the rant so often mentioned by White supremacists, but I turn it around for one particular reason: African Americans did not choose to come here. We were forced here against our will by YOU. You forced us from our homes, our lives, our livelihoods and enslaved us for generations. If anyone should be leaving and heading back to the homelands of your forefathers, it’s you. You are so proud of your legacies, your histories and your bloodlines, you should be able to trace yourselves back to your lineages and homes in Europe, an act you have denied us, forever.
There aren’t many White’s-only nations remaining out there but if you hurry, maybe they will take your backward asses in and teach you how to get along in a sophisticated society.
This will leave America to the rest of us and we can get back to raising the standard of living in this nation, modernizing American culture, rebuilding our national infrastructure, building a nation for everyone smart enough to recognize that only DIVERSITY, a diversity of cultures, of mind, of relationships, of hopes, of dreams, of mutually-shared aspirations can save us.
Grossman and his bigoted ilk need to remember: People of color and minorities don’t intend to go anywhere, so if you don’t plan to recognize us and our contributions to this nation, understand, you won’t be representing anyone, anywhere, for long.
