You’ve mistaken me for someone else

Where I stand has been clearly defined but if you missed it…

I am not a member of the life-hack, mind-hack, or hope-huckstering crowd. I hope to help change the world for the better, not profit from its descent into madness.

I believe in only two things:

  • The world is a cruel and savage place filled with monsters who will not hesitate to take advantage of your ignorance, weakness or vulnerability if they can get away with it.
  • I am not like those people. I stand for something better. The idea humanity can aspire to be better than what base cultural beliefs allow us to achieve. I do not make my living on the backs or the fears of other people. I uplift. I protect. I guide by example.

I talk the talk and I walk the walk.

Mrinal Bose: Everything in this essay is clickable and will take you to something I hold dear. If your goal is to truly know me, then read my works. It’s as close as anyone can get.

I have over two hundred essays on this site and less than one tenth of one percent of them promote anything that looks anything like the hope-huckstering or life-hacking I see as a common and daily occurrence of many of the writers here. When I write about my experiences, it is to inspire you to find your way to your particular brand of greatness, not mine.

No disrespect to those writers who make a living selling their brands. Everyone has to make a living doing something.

I write fiction. Genre fiction for the most part. When I write other things they’re either answering questions from my Quora or Scifi Stack Exchange accounts around comics, writing, science, cosmology, social and cultural awareness, or technology from a not-venture capitalist standpoint.

I don’t write pieces telling people how to live, what to do, or how to do it. I offer advice, without clickbait titles, without the idea that I know better than you do, how to live your life.

If I write something about listicles or other clickbait, it is always in gentle derision of the idea that the best a writer can possible do is to write content; information designed as a next step to convincing someone to interact with a product, a mindset or being somehow converted into a means of financial interaction.

That is not my goal.

If a person wants to contribute to my Patreon account, I consider myself blessed but don’t go out of my way to create content to manipulate people into doing so.

I write creatively. I hope to inspire others to do the same.

While I have not garnered the local fame of many of the writers here on Medium, I continue to ply my craft and improve my abilities. I hope my name will be mentioned with the casual abandon used in the devotions of Gutbloom or Todd Hannula.

I hope to inspire others to write because they love it like I do, because they see it as a means of expression, of finding their inner greatness; to write because writing down ideas can, in the right mind, at the right moment, change a person’s worldview, maybe even help a person find their best self.

And I hope that when my work becomes good enough you can’t see your way to NOT buying me a cup of coffee once a month or picking up one of my books, you are completely okay with that.

Otherwise, I subversively talk about those things which displease me but I can do nothing about because we live in a world filled with fear and those who would exploit that fear for money.

I am not one of those people. Ask anyone here who knows me. As far as umair haque is concerned, he is a wonderful writer and inspires ME to be the best person I can be. I only hope to see the world with the clarity he expresses in his work.

Welcome to Medium. I hope your experience here will be fruitful and memorable in a positive way.
